WASHINGTON, Ind. (WEHT) – Things appeared to be heading for another quiet, if warm, Thursday evening on the westside of Washington, until gunfire ripped through the air just before 6:00. No injuries were reported, but one family’s sense of security was shattered.

A man, who requested anonymity, said his family was targeted- apparently stemming from a dispute at Perdue Farms, mere miles from the family’s home. He said his family, including his mother, sister, wife and young children are scared and hopeful the suspect will be found.

Officers from the Washington Police Department and Daviess County, Indiana Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, only to find that the suspects fled the scene before they arrived. Police have yet to publicly identify the suspect, but say no threat to the community remains.

A WPD detective and the WPD Emergency Response Team were requested to respond to the scene. Officers say they also discovered threats to the Perdue facility.

Officers from WPD, DCSO, Indiana State Police, and Indiana Conservation Officers were stationed at Perdue Farms, but authorities say the suspect made no attempt to go there. Police are expected to remain at the facility for the time being.

Officers and detectives from multiple agencies are still investigating and will provide an update when available. More information can be found on WPD’s Facebook page.
