Trial set for father of infant found dead

EVANSVILLE, Ind (WEHT) Jacob Bengert was arrested after a nearly 24-hour manhunt after the mother of his infant called 911 to report the child was dead.

On January 9, Chelsea Marksberry, the child’s mother, called police and said her 3-month old son, Kieran, was dead. Police say Bengert had run away before they arrived.

Bengert was caught on January 10 near the train tracks at Fares and Maxwell.

Bengert is charged with murder in Kieran’s death, and being held without bond after pleading Not Guilty. His trial is set for June 22.

Marksberry is facing neglect charges.
