Monday night was the first Evansville City Council meeting since a prominent Republican left the party. Councilman Dan McGinn declared himself an independent earlier this month.
He left the Republican Party after Vanderburgh County GOP Chairman Wayne Parke disagreed with McGinn’s vote for a city tax increase and against gerrymandering.
Parke has called for McGinn to resign from city council saying he was elected to represent local Republicans.
McGinn did not want to comment any further on Monday night beyond his email that he wrote to Parke.
