Daviess County homes in flood area to be torn down

News

Daviess County homes sitting in an increasingly flooded area are starting to be torn down.

Contractors demolished two homes along Wyndcrest Drive, just off of Highway 81, west of Owensboro.

Daviess County emergency officials say all but one of the nine homes on the street will be demolished or used for other purposes.

Residents started taking buyouts from FEMA after years of increased flooding.

“It’s bittersweet for everybody involved. The residents, some of them have lived 40+ years. They’ve seen some of their kids raised, some of their grandkids raised in these homes. Definitely bittersweet for them.”

Two of the homes will be used by the Daviess County Fire Department for a study on how material used to build homes affect firefighter’s health.
