MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is planning a daytime closure on the Spottsville Bridge next week.
The closure will allow a detailed inspection of the bridge structure.
The bridge will be closed to all traffic between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9th and Thursday, October 10th.
This closure will allow the use of an Under Bridge Inspection Vehicle (UBIV) to facilitate the inspection work.
Climbers will also be used to help expedite the inspection process.
Around 3,000 vehicles cross the bridge in an average day.
Kentucky bridges get a detailed safety inspection every two years with long-span river and lake bridges getting an additional annual walk-through inspection.
The Spottsville Bridge, also known as the Richard W. Owen Memorial Bridge, that’s 797 feet long and opened to traffic in 1931. Tolls were removed in August 1945.
