Six students in the Daviess County Public Schools district have been named finalists for the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

Those students were among 16,000 high school seniors across the country who earned a designation as National Merit Semifinalists last September by earning the highest scores in each state on the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

The students have advanced as Finalists for consideration for 7,500 National Merit Scholarships. That’s more than $31 million that will be awarded in March.

All six DCPS Semifinalists have advanced as Finalists.

Kaylee Meador, Alec Phleps, Nace Mattingly, and Gabija Ziemyte have been named National Merit Finalists. They’re seniors at Daviess County High School.

Trevor Scott Payne and Brooklyn Michelle Knight are also among this prestigious group as 2019 National Merit Finalists. They’re seniors at Apollo High School.
