The driver of a car involved in a deadly accident is facing DUI and manslaughter charges.

Authorities in Ohio County say Lian Awi was drunk when he swerved off the road and flipped his vehicle.  Two of his passengers were thrown from the car and died.  Six others in the car were injured.

It happened around 7 Monday morning at the interchange of the Natcher Parkway and the Western Kentucky Parkway.

As authorities were directing traffic, Trooper Corey King says a police officer was hit by a car.  That happened when a Missouri man fell asleep at the wheel, and hit another car, driven by Dave Mullins.  His car then hit Hartford Police Officer, Chris Shepherd.

Mullins was treated and released from OHMS. Eyewitness News has talked with Officer Shepherd this morning.  He tells us he’s a little sore, but otherwise is just fine.  He’s still in the hospital for observation.  He told us he doesn’t know when he will be released.
