Evansville firefighters were able to quickly put out a commercial fire before it got out of hand on Sunday morning.
Around 9:30 a.m., EFD got a call on a grase fire at the Dairy Mart Convenience Store on Covert Avenue.
EFD had to temporarily shut down traffic between Taft and South Boeke, but one official says crews were able to put the flames out within minutes.
EFD says it started in the store’s fryer area and spread to the roof.
The two employees inside attempted to put it out, but realized they needed help. Luckily, no one was injured.
Evansville Fire Investigator Kim Garrett said even though crews put out the fire quickly, most of the work came in checking for hot spots and making sure the fire didn’t reignite.
The store’s kitchen is out of service, but employees say they’re working to get the front of the store back open.
