EPD K9 Teams Finish in Top Spots at Field Trials

The Evansville Police Department’s K9 Unit had a great showing at the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA) Region 5 Field Trials.

The trials were held in Lexington, KY this past week.

The USPCA Region 5 is comprised of K9 units in Indiana, Ohio and Kentucky.

Handlers and the canines were tested on obedience, agility, evidence search, suspect search, and criminal apprehension.

EPD K9 teams swept the overall top four winning place positions.

The EPD teams also finished first in every individual discipline.

Here’s how the EPD teams placed:

  • Zach Elfreich and K9 Axel – 1st place overall
  • Nick Henderson and K9 Qaos – 2nd place overall
  • Jason Thomas and K9 Abot – 3rd place overall
  • Doug Buetel and K9 Gero – 4th place overall

This was the third year in a row that Officer Elfreich and Axel won the trials.
