EPD officer involved in shooting extends leave

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Evansville Police Officer who shot and killed a man Monday night didn’t return to duty Friday.

Officer Mario Reid was given a three-day administrative leave, but EPD says Reid has chosen to extend that leave through next week.

Funeral services were held Friday for Terry Chanley – the Wadesville man who Reid shot.

Family and friends gathered at Browning Funeral home on Diamond Avenue in Evansville.

Police say Officer Reid responded to Morgan Avenue and Theatre Drive Monday night after Chanley crashed into a pole.

Bodycam video showed Chanley disoriented and reaching for an object later revealed to be a hammer. That’s when Officer Reid opened fire.

Chanley died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

Toxicology results are still pending in this case.
