Evansville Cemetary Receives Arboretum

The City of Evansville celebrated Arbor Day with a new program for one of its cemeteries focused on trees.

The William Howell Brooks Arboretum of Oak Hill Cemetery was announced on Friday.

Oak Hill received the accreditation for possessing more than 100 species of trees.

A Swamp Chesnut Oak was also dedicated during Friday’s event.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke took part in the event along with third graders Jeremiah Secrest and Lauren Vanness.

They won this year’s Vectren Keep Evansville Beautiful Third Grade Arbor Day Essay Contest.
