This year, nearly 30,000 students across Indiana will receive vouchers to attend the school of their choice, and one local school is seeing a big spike from last year.
The voucher program helps qualifying families pay tuition and fees. The Indiana Department of Education reports 14 Hoosier schools will receive more than $1 million in vouchers. That money is awared to parents, who then use it at a participating school.
Evansville Christian School is the only area instituion to crack the $1 million mark, compared to $690,000 it saw the previous year.
In all, 271 students at Evansville Chrisitian will receive state assistance. The school enrolls more than 600 with yearly tuition at rougly $6,000.
