Evansville City Council field fills up ahead of primary filing deadline

Friday, February 8 at noon is the deadline to file to run for office in Indiana, but the Evansville City Council races are already set up to be contested in the fall.

Each ward has at least one candidate from each party and the at-large race has more than three candidates from each party, meaning primary voters will to pick their favorite three candidates on May 7.

Here’s a look at who has filed as of February 7:

Ward 1

  • Republican Timothy O’Brien
  • Democrat Ben Trockman

Ward 2

  • Democrat D’Angelo Taylor
  • Democrat Missy Mosby (i)
  • Republican Natalie Rascher

Ward 3

  • Republican Steve Melcher
  • Democrat Zac Heronemus

Ward 4

  • Democrat Alex Burton
  • Republican Archie Carter

Ward 5

  • Republican Justin Elpers (i)
  • Democrat Jennifer Yaser

Ward 6

  • Democrat Jim Brinkmeyer (i)
  • Republican Paul Abramson

At-Large

  • Democrat Ed Bassemier
  • Democrat Kaitlin Moore-Morley
  • Democrat Gina Robinson Ungar
  • Democrat Jonathan Weaver (i)
  • Democrat Mike Talarzyk
  • Republican Alex Schmitt
  • Republican Zane Clodfelter
  • Republican Ron Beane
  • Republican David Christmas

Each party chooses three at-large nominees in the primary election. Voters will get to choose three at-large candidates in both the primary and general election, along with one candidate to represent their ward.
