In response to the resignation of Evansville City Councilman Dan McGinn’s affiliation with the Republican Party, GOP chairman Wayne Parke has suggested McGinn take his resignation even further.

In a letter obtained by Eyewitness News, Parke writes to McGinn:

“I accept you (sic) resignation as a Republican Precinct Committeeman. If your email is an accurate representation of your line of thinking, I suggest you also resign from your City Council position as well. You ran and was (sic) elected as a Republican. You have already stated you are not going to run for re-election in 2019–so resign now from your position as a City Councilman, so voters can be represented by a Republican because that is what they thought they were getting when you ran for office.”

Eyewitness News reached out to McGinn for comment, but have not heard back yet. The next Evansville City Council meeting is Monday, October 23.
