Evansville group working to turn “eyesore” into green space

A business fire from nearly three years ago left a vacant space in the heart of downtown Evansville.

Now, members of the Downtown Economic Improvement District group may have found a solution to what many call an “eyesore.”

In June of 2016, a fire destroyed two historic downtown buildings on Main Street.

The fire also destroyed four businesses, some homes, and was a financial blow to nearby businesses.

The lot now stands empty.

But, officials are working to make the empty space a little easier on the eyes by adding plants.

Although only temporary, people are hopeful it will lead to something more.

The lot is currently privately-owned, which is why not much can be done at this time.

The realtor assisting the owner in finding new ownership says the future of the lot space is still unknown.
