Evansville woman arrested after shooting death

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – An Evansville woman has been arrested after the shooting death of Antonio Bushrod Jr.

According to an affidavit, police found Bushrod on the porch of a home on Morton Avenue with a gun shot wound to the chest just before 2 a.m. Saturday.

We’re told he was unresponsive and was taken to the hospital where he later died.

Police said 36-year-old Tanika Stewart walked into the scene just after aid was given to Bushrod.

According to the affidavit, an officer asked Stewart if she shot Bushrod. Police said she said yes and handed the officer a gun.

Police said while she was in the back of the police cruiser, she slipped out of her handcuffs and made calls to unknown people saying Bushrod punched her in the face.

Police believe there was a party going on at the house, and Bushrod and others were asked to leave. Police said the people congregated outside and then that’s when the shooting happened.

Stewart was arrested and charged with murder. She’s booked in the Vanderburgh County Jail.

In April of 2016, Bushrod suffered life-threatening injuries in a different shooting. In July of 2015, Bushrod was one of five people arrested in connection with a shooting in the area of Powell Avenue. Click here for the original story.
