EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – The Fall Festival features fun rides and crazy food.
And it also has some staple events every year, including the Lighthouse Parade that marches Monday night of the festival.
Eyewitness News’ Kelly Austin is live on West Franklin with Josh Lefler, the Chairman of this year’s Lighthouse Parade.
Kelly Austin: Well, we’re having such a great time at the 98th West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. And with me right now, I have Josh Lefler. And Josh, you’re the co-chairman of the Lighthouse Parade that’s going on tonight.
Josh Lefler: Yes, the Lighthouse Parade starts at 7 p.m. Come out and get a chair. It’s going to be a good time.
Kelly Austin: So, tell me a little bit about this for someone who is new in town. What is the parade about?
Josh Lefler: So, the lighthouse parade was something that was started at the very beginning of the Nut Club. It was started in the ‘20s. Kids put their own lighthouses together and of course, they’ll parade them down the street and it’s just a good show and people enjoy it. You can already see people lining up out here getting their seats. It’s just something fun to do and we go down the street, you get to see all the lighthouses. It’s a fun thing to do.
Kelly Austin: So, you see all these lights glowing down the street?
Josh Lefler: Absolutely.
Kelly Austin: How neat! I know so many people I have spoken with today are excited about the Lighthouse Parade tonight, they’re coming out for it. And I can’t believe they’re already lining up.
Josh Lefler: You’ll see people getting their chairs early and the sun’s not even down yet. The kids get so excited to see all the lighthouses they’ve built. You get to see them and see that they’re proud of. We have a little contest for it.
Kelly Austin: So, I was going to ask, there’s a winner for that? How many winners? First, second, third…?
Josh Lefler: So, we have a prize. We have an award for the top 20. This year the top 3 will get a voucher or wristband for the rides.
Kelly Austin: Oh nice! And being a kid that’s the perfect thing.
Josh Lefler: That’s what you wanna do.
Kelly Austin: Alright, so how many entrants do you have?
Josh Lefler: Well, it varies. You don’t have to apply. We put it out there to the schools in the fall and we get anywhere from 30 to 50. And we’re hoping for a lot more this year. It’s a beautiful night for it.
Kelly Austin: I’m so excited. So, 7:00, right?
Josh Lefler: 7 o’clock, yes.
Kelly Austin: Come on out for the Lighthouse Parade. Happening at the 98th West Side Nut Club Fall Festival. I’m Kelly Austin, back to you Brad.
