Family, friends hold birthday celebration to honor teen shot, killed in Henderson

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – Just days after the shooting death of Jai’Waun Wadlington, his friends and family held a birthday celebration in his honor.

Hundreds of people showed up Wednesday night at Bellmeade Park.

Today would have been Wadlington’s 19th birthday. He was shot and killed in Henderson while attending a party over the weekend.

His mother says he was funny, and always cracking jokes.

“My plans going forward is I’m getting up out of here next year. I can’t stay here. He wanted to get me up out of here. He said momma if I become famous, I’m getting up out of here. And I’m getting up out of here next year.”

She says she has to stay strong for her other kids something Jai’Waun would want her to do.

Police say 18 year old Japaris Baker has been arrested in connection to Wadlington’s death. Baker is charged with murder.
