Fans react, support Screaming Eagles season ends

A large crowd of Screaming Eagles fans showed up for another night of March Madness at the Ford Center Thursday, hoping their energy could will their team to a national title game appearance. Even though USI came up short, their school spirit is still well intact.

There’s ups and downs in life, just like this, said fan Stephen Popovich

For Screaming Eagles fans, the night began with some of the most excitement in the last decade, but ended in heartbreak.

It was uh…. it was a long game, said Matt Tiffany.

Horrible. Terrible. That was a tough game, one group of students shared outside of the Ford Center in downtown Evansville.

They just made a couple mistakes that cost them after they had brought it down to three or four points there, said Steve Tennis.

Scott and Linda Wilson left the game extremely proud of USI. They played their hearts out. They’re awesome. They’re awesome. You guys really killed it, we’re so proud of you, so proud to be an eagle, you guys rocked it.

To see where they have gone since ’75 … In fact ’65 when they started to this point, is just unbelievable, said Kathy Schenk.

Students who witnessed the season end with a 81-71 loss to Point Loma left inspired.

The championship! Nothing less. Nothing less! Back here. Same place same time next year! Same place same time. USI will be back. Don’t forget about us.

In the meantime, they’ll keep the spirit alive, for a team that took them to the Final Four.

USI finished the 2018-19 season 26-9.
