Firefighters use Show to Teach Students about Fire Prevention

News
Members of the Henderson Fire Department hosting their Annual Fire Prevention Program for young students in the Tri-State.

It’s something the firefighters have done for several years, but they’ve worked hard to revamp the show for 2015. This year, the firefighters have a brand new set to interact with the kids.

They tell us while the program is fun, it carries a very important message when it comes to preparing students for emergency situations.

“I think this is kind of a very different experience,” said Shawn Crabtree, “because normally when we see these kids, it’s usually not in the best situations. This gives us a chance to hopefully teach them a little something, but also it’s great. We get the energy off the kids. It may be early in the morning. We are all a little sleepy doing these shows, but we wake up right away.”

The department also teaches kids how to communicate with 911 operators. Tomorrow, they will take their show to Chandler Elementary School.
