Former Ball State football player returns home after being held in Chinese jail for 3 years

MICHIGAN (CNN) – A former Ball State football player is back in the United States after serving three years in a Chinese prison.

Wendell Brown was convicted after a bar fight in which he says he was just trying to defend himself.

Brown was teaching football in china in 2016 when this all happened. He’s from Detroit.

Chinese authorities sentenced him to four years in prison, but that term finally came to an end.

“My heart started beating so fast. I’ve been waiting on this moment for years. I’ve dreamed of this moment and it’s finally here.”

Through campaigning efforts from his family, and the U.S. State Department working with China, Brown was released a year early.
