A former prosecutor is accused of withholding information on a data breach that allegedly happened within the prosecutor’s office.

Warrick County Prosecutor Mike Perry says former prosecutor JoAnn Krantz failed to report a possible data breach that took place in March or April of 2014.

Social Security numbers, names, addresses, tax information, and other documents were possibly breached in the cyber attack.

Current prosecutor Mike Perry says when a breach occurs, the prosecutor is expected to notify the I.R.S., the Federal Social Security Administration and other agencies. Perry tells Eyewitness News an investigation shows former prosecutor JoAnn Krantz failed to do so.

The prosecutor’s office released an email allegedly written by JoAnn Krantz to office employees that reads, “Important reminder- ‘what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.’”

The prosecutor’s office says they do not believe any personal information was obtained by anyone outside of the office and affirms, “future breaches will be next to impossible.”
