Jennifer Farmer heard the word cancer at her doctor’s office for the first time on January 10, 2017.
Then came a flurry of doctor’s visits and surgeries scheduled to target her breast cancer.
Jennifer moved back from Lexington to Owensboro to receive treatment surrounded by friends and family.
Last week, those close to her surprised her in a move of solidarity that brought her to tears.
Five women will compete in a fundraising competition that will culminate with a head shaving event on April 21.
Whichever of the five women raises the most money individually, will be the one who shaves their head alongside Jennifer that day.
All of the money raised will go directly toward Jennifer’s ongoing cancer treatment.
Jennifer says her cancer has spread to her lymph nodes, and the support from her friends is helping her fight the disease daily.
She’s scheduled to begin her chemotherapy on April 14. Just one week later, on April 21, the winning friend will join her at Klutch Barbers in Owensboro. Between now and that time, not just one, but five her closest friends will continue focusing on raising money for her treatment.
As of Monday afternoon, the total stood around $5,000 raised.
