Madisonville-Hopkins County VICE/Narcotics Unit reports they were conducting surveillance in the area on Sunday after a four-wheeler was reported stolen earlier in the day from Olney Road in Dawson Springs.

Officers say the theft suspect was seen loading a four-wheeler into a pick-up truck near Hwy. 62 in Dawson Springs.

Detectives say they attempted a traffic stop on the truck for disregarding a stop sign, but the truck fled into fields near Hwy. 62, and when they lost sight of the vehicle, they ended their pursuit.

About an hour later, detectives say they located the suspect, 27-year-old Kristopher Barker of Dallas, Georgia.

Officers say that when they approached the suspect, Barker fled, and a short foot pursuit ensued.

Detectives say Barker was placed in custody and charged for the theft of the four-wheeler, possessing burglary tools, and traffic-related charges stemming from the pursuit.

Barker is lodged in the Hopkins County Detention Center.
