A Tri-State hospital finds something unusual in one of its restrooms.

Deaconess Hospital’s Main Campus tells Eyewitness News an employee found a groundhog in a restroom on Monday afternoon.

EPD says a woman reportedly opened a bathroom and found a groundhog that growled at her and appeared aggressive. She then closed the door leaving the groundhog inside.

Animal Control was called to capture the groundhog.

Investigators say surveillance video shows three suspects, one of them carrying a backpack, entering the hospital and taking an elevator to the fourth floor where the groundhog was found. EPD adds the suspects were heard saying, “This is the best thing we will do all year.”

Deaconess says the animal never left the restroom and did not have contact with staff, patients, or visitors. The hospital adds it takes this event very seriously and is working with law enforcement to resolve the case.

Evansville Animal Care & Control say they let the groundhog back into the wild after it was captured.
