Henderson animal shelter sees an influx in pigs

Animal shelters often see an influx of dogs and cats. But for one Henderson shelter, it’s pigs.

Over the past three months, the Humane Society of Henderson County has come into the possession of six pigs.

The pigs aren’t from the Reed, Kentucky animal seizure but ones that people had as pets.

If you live within the city limits of Henderson, pigs are restricted as pets. But if you own one in Henderson County, the humane society just wants people to realize the responsibility that comes along with it.

“We’re trying to get the word out, so we can be more proactive than reactive,” said Angela Hagedorn of the Humane Society of Henderson County, “so we can make sure people are understanding the responsibilities that come along with getting pigs.”

The humane society believes the trend of owning small pigs comes from social media.
