Henderson Police are heading to Florida to bring back the man they say killed an Evansville mother. 21 year old Brystal Chambers was found dead inside her Henderson apartment last June, investigators say this is a lengthy investigation but with the help of US Marshals, 43 year old Demetrius Compton is behind bars in Jacksonville, Florida. Officials say Compton didn’t go to Florida in June, they say they knew he was still in the area after Chamber’s body was discovered. But with so many unanswered questions, it took 10 months and almost 800 miles to finally name their suspect. Lieutenant Chip Stauffer says moving forward too soon could have hurt Chambers family even more, and that its better to work on the side of caution. Stauffer is piecing together the last days of Chamber’s life, and two detectives are heading to Florida this week to pick up Compton. Investigators say they can’t discuss specifics of what actually needed more clarification and why this case took so long to get an arrest since this is an ongoing investigation. Stauffer’s next step is to find out who Compton was with in Florida, and why and how long he’d been there.
