Henderson to host first Dia de Los Muertos festival

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – The City of Henderson will host its first Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival.

Day of the Dead is a Mexican holiday to celebrate loved ones who have died, usually associated with the Catholic Church.

City and community leaders put this event together to create a unique and engaging experience that could become an annual festival and to show respect and acceptance for the county’s growing Hispanic community.

Traditions for Dia de Los Muertos include brightly colored altars devoted to departed relatives and friends, gatherings at family burial plots in cemeteries, special music, food offerings as well as processions and dances featuring revelers in costumes that evoke images of skeletons.

This is a family-friendly event that’s free and open to the public.

It will be held at Central Park on Sat., Nov. 2nd from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
