Happy 25th Birthday, Daily 3 and Daily 4!
Numbers fans, take note! This month marks the 25th anniversary of the Hoosier Lottery’s Daily 3 and Daily 4 games. Officials say players have won more than $675 million playing Daily 3 and Daily 4 over the years.
According to the Hoosier Lottery, Daily 3 and Daily 4 games launched in June of 1990, just months after the Hoosier Lottery started in October 1989.
Daily 3 and Daily 4 drawings occur twice daily, midday and evening. Players choose numbers from a field of 0 to 9. The games pay prizes only for matching all numbers wagered, with prize amounts differing based on the type of wager the player has made and the amount of repeating digits in the winning number combination.
Now for some fun facts and statistics on the games’ most popular or noteworthy number combinations:
The number combination 3-3-3 has been drawn 17 times over the last 25 years.
Number combination 7-7-7 has been drawn 16 times, along with 4-4-4 and 8-8-8.
4-4-4 was the first triple number combination ever drawn. It first appeared Sept. 26, 1990.
Number combinations 0-0-0 and 9-9-9 have been drawn 15 times.
1-1-1 were the winning Daily 3 numbers on Nov. 11, 2013 (11-11-13), resulting in a huge payout. It also was the first set of triples drawn since the Daily 3 and Daily 4 ball drawings returned to television in September 2013.
The number combination 1-2-3 has been drawn 13 times in Daily 3, but the combination 1-2-3-4 has never appeared in Daily 4, while 4-3-2-1 has appeared twice.
The Daily 4 number combination drawn most often is 6-5-7-8, having appeared nine times, most recently in 2010.
In Daily 4, the winning number combination 9-9-9-9 has been drawn five times, while 8-8-8-8 and 3-3-3-3 have never appeared.
Winning number combinations 1-1-1-1, 2-2-2-2, 4-4-4-4, 5-5-5-5 and 7-7-7-7 have all appeared once, with 7-7-7-7 debuting on March 11, 2015, making it the most recent quadruple number combination drawn, and paying out more than $1.5 million on 634 winning tickets.
0-0-0-0 has appeared twice and 6-6-6-6 has been drawn five times over the years.
1-0-0-1 appeared June 23, with a potential prize payout of more than $449,000. The holders of 670 winning tickets racked up prizes from $80 to $2,900.
1-8-1-6, the year Indiana became a state, has appeared once, in 1996.
1-7-7-6 has appeared twice, in 2013 and 2014.
The number combination 9-1-1 has appeared 14 times, all since 2002.
2-9-1-7, the score in the Colts 2006 Superbowl win over the Bears has never been drawn.
A Manning-Luck or Luck-Manning combo 1-8-1-2 or 1-2-1-8 haven’t appeared since 2001, before Luck was known as number 12 in this state. However, 1-2-1-2 appeared in April 2012, just days before the Colts drafted Luck.
The first Monday of 2015, more than 300 people won when 2-0-1-5 was drawn in the midday Daily 4.
May 17, 2005, two days before number 31 Reggie Miller’s last game in a Pacer uniform, the Daily 3 numbers 0-3-1 were drawn.
Start your engines! The number combination 5-0-0 has appeared 16 times, most recently May 28, 2014.
Fans of Jeff Gordon might like to know that 0-0-2-4 or 0-2-4-0 have never been drawn, but 2-4-0-0 appeared three times, all in 2012.
Gordon’s 0-2-4 has been drawn 20 times in Daily 3.
Central Indiana area code 3-1-7 has appeared 19 times, including once on March 17, 1998, while northern Indiana’s 2-1-9 has popped up 11 times over the years, 2-6-0 has appeared eight times, 5-7-4 has been drawn 10 times, most recently June 7 of this year, 7-6-5 has been drawn 22 times, 2-0-9 has appeared 11 times, 9-3-0 has been drawn nine times and southern Indiana’s 8-1-2 has been drawn 15 times. Combination 4-6-3, a new area code for central Indiana in the coming years, has appeared nine times.
The Lottery celebrated the anniversary of both of the games June 25 with wheel-spin events around the state.

Lottery officials say all Hoosier Lottery games, including profits from the sale of Daily 3 and Daily 4 help the Hoosier Lottery support causes such as local police and firefighters’ pensions, the Teachers Retirement Fund and the Build Indiana Fund.
