Hopkins Co. Humane Society remains closed

The Hopkins County Humane Society is still closed due to parvo.

It was supposed to reopen on Tuesday, but an animal taken in a few days ago tested positive for the virus.

The shelter has two locations under quarantine and both will stay closed for at least another week.

“That’s just to prevent cross-contamination,” said Dustin Miller. “Not only do we have stray animals, but we have owned animals here. So, we have to take great precautions to prevent cross-contamination.”

Humane Society officials advise pet owners to be sure their pet is vaccinated. The shelter is scheduled to re-open Tuesday, May 22.
