Hopkins County deal for sports complex approved

HOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT)- A long-awaited sports complex for Hopkins County could be closer to happening but in a new location.

The Hopkins County Fiscal Court voted to accept a deal to share costs of buying land at Midtown Commons in Madisonville for the complex. They’re splitting an $800,000 cost of buying 23 acres with the city of Madisonville.

Judge-Executive Jack Whitfield Jr. said having it there would help bring more people to nearby restaurants and other businesses. The counties tried to build a similar complex off I-69 south of Madisonville but it was never constructed.
