House committee investigating Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao

WASHINGTON, DC (CNN) – Elaine Chao is under investigation for alleged ethics and conflicts of interest violations.

The House Oversight and Reform Committee launched the investigation Monday into the Transportation Secretary.

They’re looking into if she has been using her position to benefit herself and her family’s shipping company, Foremost Group.

The committee is also looking into her failure to initially divest from stocks in the construction company, Vulcan Materials, whose board she used to be part of.

Chao is married to Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and was one of the first Cabinet Secretaries to be confirmed in the Trump Administration.

The House Panel is requesting documents from Chao, which her department spokesperson calls an “attempt to undermine her long career of public service”.

She has a September 30th deadline to provide the materials.
