ICYMI: Details, 911 calls released after Sidetrack shooting incident

News

Details and the 911 calls were released Sunday after five people were shot outside of an Evansville bar.

Evansville Police arrested John Perteet, who they say was the shooter, along with two other men.

Luckily there were no life-threatening injuries, after three women and two men were shot just outside of Sidetrack Tavern after EPD say there was a crowd of people just outside during the shooting.

“I’ve got shots fired at Sidetrack ….”

EPD arrived on scene as Perteet began getting into a car. Right after that, another man with blood on his clothes, Howard Phipps, began banging on the car window.

“3-3-0 I’ve got blood out here, I’m not sure who’s shot…who’s injured.”

That’s when the officer drew his weapon, but the car fled the scene.

“There’s a guy in the back seat ….Charles Charles John six three eight … red GMC North Sherman. get that thing stopped.”

The car led officers on a short pursuit until they were able to get Perteet and the driver, Terry Ealum, in custody.

“I can see him trying to leave Sidetrack…..”

The man with blood on his clothes, Phipps, was arrested when officers returned to the scene after ignoring their orders to stay out of taped off areas.

Perteet is being held on a $500,000 cash only bond. He’s charged with battery, criminal recklessness and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Ealum was charged with resisting arrest.

“Some of the victims were hit by stray bullets basically, some of them said they weren’t even facing that direction…. we believe the majority of the victims were just struck by gunfire as he fired toward a large crowd.”

Sidetrack Tavern posted a statement on their Facebook page, saying “an incident occurred last night outside of the bar and out of our control. Patrons inside were safe, secure and we take security very seriously and ensure every visitor will have a fun, safe and enjoyable time at Sidetrack.”

EPD says they have responded to more than twenty calls in the past thirteen to fourteen months here at this bar. One to note was last November where one of the men shot this morning, Fipps, was actually shot then after being involved in a fight. Of course, they are working on solving all the unanswered questions revolving this case. In Evansville, Amelia Young, Eyewitness News.
