Illinois residents can apply for recreational marijuana licenses

ILLINOIS (WEHT) – It’s the first day applicants can apply for a recreational marijuana dispensary license in Illinois.

The recreatoinal marijuana law goes into effect January 1st.

The governor’s office also released a map showing 683 census tracts considered to be “disproportionately impacted.” by previous marijuana laws. Those areas are shaded in blue on the map.

They would get priority when determining who receives a license.

Portions of Carmi, Harrisburg and Olney are included in the areas.

The state has not said if anyone from those areas has applied for a license.

The application to apply for a license can be found here.

Applications must be submitted no later than 12 p.m. on January 2, 2020.

Those applications will be reviewed after that and licenses will be awarded by May 1, 2020.
