Ky. (WEHT) — In an effort to combat food insecurity, six organizations are teaming up for the Feed Seniors Now food drive.

It’s part of a nationwide initiative to raise public awareness about food insecurity in older populations.

The Green River Area Development District (GRADD) says they’re delivering over 1,500 meals per day through their Meals on Wheels program; 800 more than this time last year.

“Going through the pandemic last year, at that point in time we knew there were probably 10 million seniors who didn’t have access to go and purchase food. We know that number has increased and we’re just hoping we can help that number a little,” Nick Oller with Independence Bank said. “We can get out and get those folks the food that they may not be necessary to have in their house at this time.”

Non-perishable food items can be dropped off at the following locations through April 30.
