The Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore has been designated as a National Park.
This designation makes the first National Park in the Hoosier state and the 61st National Park in the US.
Last month, US Senator Todd Young (R-IN) joined Congressman Pete Visclosky (D-IN) and Congressman Jackie Walorski (R-IN) introduced legislation to make it a national park.
The legislation includes a provision that retitles the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore as the Indiana Dunes National Park.
Young says it’s not just a state treasure, but a national treasure.
Other lawmakers say this legislation provides the recognition it deserves. And it helps drive the local economy.
