INDIANAPOLIS (WEHT)- INDOT announced Wednesday that it will launch a temporary program to let licensed food trucks operate at rest areas for commercial truck drivers and motorists “engaged in essential travel.”

INDOT says truck drivers have reported limited availability for food and beverage options along highways due to restaurants and other businesses closing dining rooms and changing hours of service amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

INDOT says it will provide two permits on a first come, first served basis for food trucks to work at certain rest areas across the state from 7 AM to 7 PM.

Permits are valid until cancelled by INDOT or until the “national federal emergency status is lifted.” Information regarding the application process can be found here.
