Indiana woman in custody after baby death

(WEHT)- 36-year-old Ashlee Rans is in custody in connection to the death of her baby from methamphetamine intoxication. Authorities say Rans first called first responders to a residence, where she blamed herself for rolling over the baby while she was asleep.

However, a coroner’s report reportedly showed the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine in the baby’s system. Officials say Rans originally admitted to using marijuana and said she was aware of passing methamphetamine to the child through breastfeeding.

Rans reportedly later admitted to using meth two days before the baby’s death and is currently being held at the Marshall County Jail.
