Students at Ivy Tech Community College got the chance on Thursday to see how important service animals are to those who need them.
They also got to see how the animals interact with their owners, and how people should react when they see a service animal.
Josh Jones, who has had a service animal since returning from the war, says his dog Rapala has been a lifesaver:
“It gave me structure and discipline, said Jones. “But he helps me in so many different ways. He carries my groceries, wakes me up from nightmares. If I start getting upset, he will jump on me and alert me to ‘Hey, calm down!’ So many countless number of things.”
The program was a part of Disability Awareness Month in Indiana.
