The Jasper 13 and under Babe Ruth All-Star Team is headed to the 2017 World Series.
According to our media partner News Now Dubois County, the team returned to Jasper Sunday night to a large turnout of family and fans who gathered for a small parade through town.
The Jasper team went 5-0 this past week to earn a berth in the 2017 Babe Ruth World Series.
Head Coach Craig Johnson said the team slowly gained confidence and really gelled – winning its three games in pool play early in the tournament.
“Once we got to play, we knew we were good enough as a team – that anything could happen, and it did. We went 5-0 in this tournament and honestly we didn’t have a bad game. We just have a great bunch of kids and parents and community, and it’s just fantastic to be a part of. It really is,” said Johnson.
Team members got to ride in Jasper Police Cars for the parade.
Jasper defeated Evergreen Park, Illiniois 6-1 to win the Ohio Valley Regional played this past week in Munster, Indiana.
The Jasper team now advances to the 13 and under Babe Ruth World Series which starts August 10 in Mountain Home, Arkansas.
Jasper’s 13 and under team also made it to the Babe Ruth World Series in 2013.
