A preliminary hearing is set for 51-year-old Gail G. Kelley on July 17. Kelley is charged with one count of murder and one count of tampering with physical evidence following the incident.
Police say they received a call at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday. Kelley told police she hit 44-year-old Michael T. Evans on the head with the hatchet. When officers arrived at the house, they found Evans dead with an apparent head injury.
Evans worked at the Ford plant as a product specialist for 20 years. A funeral is set for Wednesday.
