Kids at Deaconess Gateway receive once in a lifetime visit from sports stars

News

For the kids at the Deaconess Gateway Hospital Pediatric ICU, Saturday started as a normal day. But when a handful of sports stars showed up to spend the morning with the kids, their days got a little bit brighter.

“Today was probably the best day of my life,” said Ethan, a 14-year-old patient at Deaconess. “It just made me feel good inside.”

The group included NFL legend Bob Griese, as well as Jerad Eickhoff, Rick Ankiel, and St. Louis Cardinals mascot, Fred Bird. The group handed out autographed baseballs and photos, took pictures, and interacted with the kids on the floor.
