(From our media partner News Now Dubois County) – The current Detective Sergeant of the Dubois County Sheriff’s Department says now is the “right time” to vy for the department’s top position. In a news release, Tom Kleinhelter announced his intentions to run for Sheriff of Dubois County in 2018.

“I am excited about the opportunity,” Kleinhelter said in the release.

Kleinhelter started with the Sheriff’s Department in 1994 as a Jail Officer, and advanced through the department ranks holding every position that is available through testing and interviews.

“I have been the Detective Sergeant for the past 5 years where I am the lead investigator on most of the crimes against people of our county. I also supervise the department’s evidence room as well as serve as the department’s narcotics officer.”

“I have two grown kids now, so I will have the needed time to perform the extra duties that come with the office. This is not an 8 hour-a-day job.”

Current Dubois County Sheriff Donny Lampert is prevented from running for a third consecutive term when his current term expires on January 1, 2019.

Kleinhelter, who will run as a Republican, says he will be a good Sheriff for Dubois County because is an excellent listener and, “I do not rush to judgment.”
