7 out of 10 parents admit to sending their kids to school sick

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) – According to a recent survey, 7 out of 10 parents say they have sent their kid to school even when they knew their kid was sick.

Most parents blamed their actions on pressure at work and others blamed the school’s strict attendance rules.

Eyewitness News’ Kelly Austin spoke with Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s Chief Communications Officer Jason Woebkenberg about keeping your kids home from school when they are sick.

Besides pressure at work and strict attendance policies, nearly 3 in 10 of the parents surveyed say they had sent their sick kid to school because they absolutely couldn’t afford to miss another day off work to stay home with them.

In a perfect world, no parent would have to struggle with the decision to send your child to school sick or not, Woebkenberg has some guidelines to help make the decision easier.
