On Tuesday, Eyewitness News obtained a 911 call made in connection with a two-year-old who shot herself Saturday night at Savannah Garden Apartments.

Police said on Monday that the two-year-old girl is okay.

EPD believes the girl found the gun in a bedroom of the apartment.

In the 911 call released by Evansville/Vanderburgh County Central Dispatch, the caller says they think the girl may have found the gun outside and thought it was a toy.

The caller says the child’s chest was injured and there was no bleeding, believing the bullet may have gone in and out.

More on shooting

There were three adults in the apartment at the time of the shooting, police said. None of the adults are the child’s guardian.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and right now there are no pending charges.

However, police are looking for Charico Carter as a possible witness.

Police believe Carter was in the apartment when the shooting happened but before police arrived.

Police believe she fled to avoid arrest on two misdemeanor warrants. She’s not a suspect in the shooting, police said.

EPD is still trying to determine who owned the gun and how the child got ahold of it.

Anyone with information is asked to call EPD at 812-436-7979.
