EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Fans are reacting after news of Walter McCarty’s removal, and the announcement of Todd Lickliter as head coach.
According to long-time Aces fan Dennis Dugan, the change was necessary.
“It was a good move, we couldn’t keep going the way we were going.”
It was a season of upsets both on and off the court for the Aces. But that hasn’t stopped their fans like Steven Bailey Jr. from showing up for the team.
“It’s good to move forward. I’m here for basketball, I love basketball.”
Longtime Aces fans know their team, and are more than familiar with new beginnings. Dugan’s support has almost been lifelong.
“I’ve been watching U of E basketball since Sloan. So I’ve been watching for over 50 years.”
Wednesday, they filled the Ford Center to see what this next chapter, and head coach, brings.
Steve Bailey Sr. is ready to see what they have in store.
“We don’t know yet. We have to wait and see what he can do. And we hope that he can come in and bring us back!”
Despite recent challenges, there is hope.
“It’s been a rough season but I think it’s going to be really interesting to see where they’re going to go from here,” said fan Jordan Baer.
“We got some good players and we need to get them back,” said Bailey.
But no matter what happens, these fans will be in the stands.
“Here to the end!”
