NEWBURGH, Ind. (WEHT) – The new Allen Family Amphitheater in Newburgh is expected to be built by the summer of 2020. That’s according to town council member Carol Schaefer.
At Monday night’s council meeting, funds for the amphitheater were verified, and a bid to get it built is expected to be awarded December 30th at the next meeting.
Schaefer says over $135,000 has been raised for the project, all from foundations, businesses and individuals, with no government funding.
The project also includes burying all of the overhead wires on the north side of French Island Trial near the amphitheater site.
Schaefer says the town would also like to fundraise enough money to build new restrooms next to the amphitheater.
People can donate by purchasing wall plaques or bricks with their family names to be displayed at the amphitheater.
As long as the weather cooperates, the project is expected to be done by the summer.
