Alliance Resource Partners, L.P. announced Friday that it plans to reduce production at its higher-cost mines in order to focus on maximizing production at its lower-cost mines.
Around 120 employees at the Gibson North and Gibson South mines received WARN notices Friday. By the end of the year, Alliance expects to idle Gibson North, while increasing production at Gibson South.
And Onton mine in Sebree, KY closed Friday, leaving around 140 employees without jobs.
Alliance officials say some of the coal production from the reductions at Onton, Gibson North, and Elk Creek will be replaced by increased production at the lower-cost mines.
