American Legion Post hosts Memorial Day ceremony

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WEHT) — Oak Hill Cemetery in Evansville was filled with people this Memorial Day as they gathered to honor the men and women who served our country.

American Legion Funkhouser Post 8 hosted the ceremony with State Senator Jim Tomes as the guest speaker.

Instead of a 21 gun salute, members from different posts in the state folded and presented an American flag.

Organizers say now more than ever, holding Monday’s ceremony was important.

“It’s a time to remember our fallen veterans on Memorial Day. The guys that can’t join us, the men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice to be able to stand here and enjoy our freedoms and remember them this day so their names are not forgotten,” Ken Selby, First Vice Commander For Funkhouser American Legion, said.

People were given the option to social distance themselves when they arrived.
