The smokey, sweet smell of ribs and pulled pork filling the air in downtown Owensboro this weekend. The 38th Annual International Bar-B-Q Festival kicked off on Friday.
Some barbecue lovers got an early jump on the food on Friday afternoon.
Tens of thousands of visitors are expected to eat hundreds of pounds of chicken, mutton, and burgoo from dozens of vendors and cooking teams competing for this year’s governor’s cup.
“There’s so many types of food to try, and there’s so many people,” said John Drake. “There’s a lot of people from everywhere. I think the people watching is a good part of it too.”
Country music star John Michael Montgomery is scheduled to hit the stage at the Owensboro Convention Center at 7 p.m.
